Well, 1/12 of my New Year's resolution is complete and I'm loving it so far.
On Saturday, I attended The Lion King musical. My mom purchased the tickets as a gift for me and we were going to go together. Unfortunately, my brother was in the hospital for almost a week after a ruptured appendix and Mom just wanted to stay home and take care of him.*
Luckily, one of my best friends, Kelly, was willing to be my date for the evening. The musical was at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC). I'd never been there before. It is a beautiful facility.
The show itself was fantastic too. The costumes were some of the most elaborately designed, creative things I have ever seen. The actors were, of course, fantastic. The were able to move like lions, which was pretty impressive to me. Adam Jacobs and Syndee Winters were great as Simba and Nala. Adam wasn't bad to look at either!
If Kelly were in the musical, she would like to play a giraffe. I think I would like to play Pumba.
Even though I have probably watched The Lion King movie about 500 times and can quote the movie, I found myself extremely moved by the message, which I think was captured when Mustafa reminds Simba, "Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the circle of life. Remember who you are."
This was an excellent way to begin my New Year's resolution. Thank you to Kelly for being my date and thanks to my wonderful mother for the tickets.
*Note: My brother is home and recovering well, thank God.
